Though summers in Alaska may be hot and sunny (and getting more so) like summers in other parts of the U.S., Spring and Autumn are unique. Those gloriously warm transitional days that fill the weeks between winter and summer and again between summer and winter in other places don't happen here. In Alaska Spring and Autumn can be compressed into just a few days. Several feet of snow can still cover the ground on the first day of Spring (March 21) and by the first day of Autumn (September 21) just about all of the trees may be bare.
